Saltwater Chlorine Generators require 99% pure Salt, specifically Sodium Chloride (NaCl). You should not use iodised salt or rock salt. Many retailers offer salt labeled as "Pool Salt" but that terminology isn't necessary. Many pool owners choose water softener salt which is quite satisfactory assuming it is still at least 99% salt, avoiding those with extra additives. In addition, avoid pressed pellets of (usually) water softener salt which take too long to dissolve and choose granular salt instead. Salt can be bought from home improvement stores, hardware stores, restaurant suppliers - no iodised salt - grocery stores and more.
