AutoPilot Chlor-Sync Salt Cells utilize self-cleaning technology, but the manufacturer suggests the cell should be inspected every 8 weeks and cleaned - acid washed - as appropriate. In addition, the Cell light will flash red and a message of, "CELL" when the system detects the need to clean the cell. AutoPilot gives no indication of any particular messages or lights that indicate a need to replace the cell. The owner's manual can be found here.
