There are two options if you use a DE Filter, which basically come in to play only when you are adding more DE powder to “recharge” your filter.
The first option is simply unscrewing the prefilter at this time and screwing the prefilter bypass pipe back in place until all the DE powder has been added.
The second option would be to plumb a bypass valve in tandem with the prefilter, so that when adding DE powder you can temporarily route water around the prefilter. You can use the pre-configured prefilter bypass assemblylike this one or use off-the-shelf parts to plumb it on your own in the same way.
The point is to ensure that the DE powder doesn’t get captured by the prefilter and makes it to the filter where it needs to go. Let us know if you have more questions.
