You must use the correct cell type setting for your size cell, otherwise your system will malfunction. When you use a higher capacity salt cell (with your settings correct, as mentioned), it will work less hard and last longer as well as being able to make chlorine more quickly on demand should problems arise (after a storm or heavy pool use, for example).
