Because a well-maintained salt-water pool has a very low salinity level (a fraction of the salt level as the ocean, virtually fresh water), most dogs can safely swallow the small amounts they inevitably take in while swimming. With any pool, problems arise only when dogs drink large quantities, especially if the water was just treated with chemicals in a concentrated form. So always offer plenty of fresh water, supervise their time in the pool, and of course call your veterinarian if you think your dog has guzzled a lot—read more in this article about pets in the pool.
