This is not medical advice and I'm not a doctor, but based on experience what most people are talking about when they say they have negative reactions to chlorinated water (especially the dry itchy skin, redness, and more caustic effects) are due to the "chloramines" which are byproducts of traditional chlorination and form because of incomplete oxidation. Chloramines in pools and spa cause those harsh effects, and salt chlorine generators typically prevent chloramines from forming and help remove them if present. That is why such pools have a much more natural swimming experience and are typically preferred by people with sensitive skin.
