If you take a look at the Owners Manual on page 7, you can see the two configurations of this pump to allow it to line up with Pentair WhisperFlo / IntelliFlo, or alternatively Hayward Tristar / Ecostar.
From the published brochure on the MaxFlo VS500, it appears that the height of the inlet/ horizontal placement of the outlet have slightly smaller dimensions. For example the center of the MaxFlo inlet is 7.63" off the ground compared to 8.1" for this SmartFlo. Similarly, the center of the MaxFlo outlet is 9.48" horizontally from the front face of the inlet, while the center of SmartFlo's outlet is 10.1" horizontally from the face of its inlet.
