Between these two pumps, they both offer 4 programmable run schedules, totally enclosed fan-cooled permanent magnet motors, and quiet operation. The SmartFlo will not connect to an automation system out of the box but there is an available interface kit for $88. Both will be great pumps, but the SmartFlo will cost a lot less than the Tri Star 900 and it also comes with a 3 year limited warranty similar to Hayward. The main difference there is the Hayward warranty may be tied to a pool professional installing the pump. The SmartFlo will not have any DIY limitations.
