Before adding salt, always test your water first to measure any existing salinity level. A good approach is to then add maybe 90% of the amount of salt that you calculate is needed. Run your pump for a day or two, and then re-test your water. If needed, you can add more salt at that point. It's always easier to add more salt; if you add to much you have to remove some water.
