A chlorine tablet dispenser does not necessarily need to be removed if you have the room to also install the chlorine generator as well (they typically go in the same area of the plumbing), you would just not need to fill up the inline chlorinator with chlorine tablets. Otherwise, if you need the room, you would typically cut out the old chlorinator and replace it with the new chlorine generator.
