The boost mode is a one touch feature that will raise the chlorine generator's output to 100% for 24 hours of run time and then return to its previous setting. This is what you would do after a storm or heavy pool usage to compensate for temporarily increase chlorine demand. You do not need to "shock" or super chlorinate the water over its normal range on a regular basis when used properly, if the chlorine generator is consistently keeping the chlorine level in range. This prevents microorganism growth and prevents chloramines from forming; additionally, water going through the cell is constantly being superchlorinated to break down any chloramines if present.
