I have a Pentair sys with IC 40 and have read that Pentair says I can replace it with a IC 60 and set it at a lower setting and it will last longer. Can I use the CFICGEN60 to replace the IC 40 that is going bad the same way

Yes, that's correct. Using a higher power salt cell will allow the system to work less xxxx a daily basis so it can last longer, and also you'll be able to turn it up to make more chlorine more quickly should pool problems arise.
