We have a regular chlorinated pool that we are considering switching over to salt. We started looking because we were looking for a new filter and found one that is a filter with pump and salt water system. Is that all that is needed to switch over to salt water? I've seen you do not need to change your filter to switch to a salt system but that's the main thing we do want to change. we have a 24 ft round above ground pool

"Switching over to salt" just means using a salt chlorine generator on your pool so that you don't have to buy and manually add chlorine anymore. If you also happen to need to replace your filter, as you say, you may find salt chlorinators bundled with a pump and/or filter, or you can choose to get these items separately.
