You have two ways to control how much chlorination the system creates, 1) turning it up and down on its controls, and 2) adjusting how long it runs per day. Hooking the salt system up to a timer is an easy way to have complete control over how long it runs. That way you have the benefits of a system that gets little wear-and-tear every day and has much greater capacity to clear the pool up if water problems occur.
