A salt system's cell lifespan is wholly dependent on the size of pool it is used on, how it is operated, and how well the pool is maintained. A possible range could be anywhere from 3-10 years. Salt chlorinators typically need to be cleaned seasonally; this is based on the pool's "LSI" water chemistry level. The salinity level in a pool does not typically cause such effects, it is so low that pool-grade materials which are meant to withstand the corrosiveness of chlorine should not see a change. If you are referring to a zinc anode, that is a method to "bond" your pool if for some reason it isn't or is no longer bonded.
