If the SWG is plugged in rather than hard wired, what happens if the pump stops operating? Is there a low flow detection that stops the SWG? Could the interruption of water flow damage the unit?

The unit has a built-in flow switch, which activates / deactivates the unit when water starts / stops. That being said, if you plug it in you can consider plugging it in to a plug-in timer that is coordinated with your pump so that they are also synchronized to come on and off together. That would be ideal and provide redundant protection.
