I know the cell itself can be installed either vertically or horizontally, can the flow switch be plumbed in vertically or does it need to be horizontal?

Yes, the flow switch for a CircuPool RJ PLUS Series Salt Chlorinator can be installed on a horizontal or vertical section of pipe. In fact, our Vertical installation Kit places the flow switch in the vertical run of pipe before it turns back down through the salt cell.
