The unit is a direct replacement in that its plumbing components are the same length/threads/etc so it does not require re-plumbing. The components between the two systems are not interchangeable. This model has is a high capacity system so it would work less hard to do the same job cleaning the pool water and provide more sanitation power when needed after a storm/pool party/etc... if the water gets cloudy.
